We review GoDaddy VPS hosting service comprehensively on the price, plans, server resources, speed, uptime, and technical support.

Although GoDaddy performs excellently in the domain name registration field, we find it does not have the same good reputation for VPS hosting service. Actually, it only gains 3.5 out of 5 stars editorial ratings as the following shows.

In below, we introduce the detailed information about GoDaddy VPS hosting plans, to help customers verify whether it is the right choice for their websites.

Plans & Price

GoDaddy offers both 5 plans of Linux and Windows VPS for each, but we only focus on the Linux VPS of Economy, Value and Deluxe mainly according to the popularity and affordability. From $23.99/mo basically, the plans are starting with 1 GB RAM, 40 GB storage and 1,000 GB/mo bandwidth. Check out the detailed prices and resources for each plan in below table.

Economy Value Deluxe
RAM 1 GB 2 GB 3 GB
Disk Space 40 GB 60 GB 90 GB
Bandwidth 1,000 GB/mo 2,000 GB/mo 3,000 GB/mo
1 Month $38.99/mo $51.99/mo $77.99/mo
12 Months $35.99/mo $46.79/mo $70.19/mo
24 Months $31.19/mo $41.59/mo $62.39/mo

The plans looks affordable if we don’t consider the additional charges for FTP backups and cPanel control panel. In fact, it is double compared with the main competitors like BlueHost, which the Standard VPS plan includes 2 GB RAM, 30 GB disk space, 1 TB/mo bandwidth, 1 free domain name, 1 dedicated IP, and enhanced cPanel & WHM for only $23.99/mo.

BlueHost Promotion Link Activation

In addition to the different RAM, disk space and bandwidth for different plans, all VPS hosting plans include free rapid setup, free 10 Fotolia credits, bandwidth overage protection, free SSL certificate, 3 dedicated IPs, etc.

featuresBesides, each VPS plan comes with the following advanced features.

  • Exclusive Server Concierge that helps get the server up and running fast.
  • The Operating System as Fedora Version 19, CentOS Version 6.4, or Windows 2008 Standard 64-bit which is the operating system of choice for those looking for a highly stable version of Linux and Windows that offer enterprise-level reliability.
  • Admin access that helps install and run virtually anything on the server.
  • Manage multiple web sites on one server account.
  • Versatility which means your server can be used for a wide variety of purposes, including gaming, virtual (i.e., shared) hosting, and hosting of traffic-intensive websites.

However, GoDaddy VPS hosting is semi-managed, does not include FTP accounts and control panel by default unless the extra charge.

The VPS plans are all bare bone. It does not include cPanel or any other control panel by default, which means customers need for the good knowledge on Linux or Windows when managing their servers. If you want to have an easy-to-use control panel, it’s charged for $5/mo for Plesk and $10/mo for cPanel.

Moreover, GoDaddy provides no backup service so that you have to perform backups for their data manually. For customers who are not skilled enough and need automatically backups, then they need to pay $3.99/mo at least, which includes 15 GB FTP backup.

As we monitor the server uptime in the past 30 days, a sample GoDaddy VPS delivers 99.93% uptime on average. This is really an awesome uptime and far behind the guaranteed 99.9% uptime.

However, on the other hand, the page loading speed of GoDaddy VPS hosting is not very outstanding. The average server response is 784 ms per request in the test. That’s really not an excellent performance. Besides, you can easily search a lot of angry complaints about the “GoDaddy Outages” in Google.

GoDaddy offers 24×7 experienced technical support to help customers with any questions they met, such as unreachable server, setup process, password reset, and so on. No matter when and where, customers can contact the support representatives via phone, and email ticket.

However, GoDaddy does not take responsibility for any questions about server configuration, domain name management, or database settings. If customers do need support for these problems, they can upgrade customer service to premium support package, which charges for $200/mo.

As the in-depth review above, GoDaddy VPS is affordable and easy-to-manage for technicians and customers who desire an unmanaged services.

However, we do not recommend it for the customers with little technical knowledge and looking for an affordable managed service. By contrast, we suggest them going with the following VPS hosting which offer rich guaranteed resources and professional managed support.
