Oct 22, 2015

LeaseWeb was established in 1997 with a single website which is an online business directory. In 2000, this company got their first servers which include a total data transfer of 512kbit/s. Now, they offer a lot of hosting-related services, such as cloud hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated servers, hybrid solutions and content delivery network.

The feedbacks from the real users tell that LeaseWeb is not a reliable and proper option for VPS hosting because of their limited features and unresponsive customer service. Before the comprehensive review, we would like to show some ratings.

Price and Packages

With regard to VPS hosting solutions, LeaseWeb launches four upgradeable packages, called S, M, L and XL. The regular prices of the first three plans are $16/mo, $33/mo and $64/mo. But at present, they are discounted at $7/mo, $16/mo and $31/mo. The last plan is not available currently. All the four plans include 500 GB monthly data transfer. If you want more, you are allowed to purchase 1000GB with $5, 2000 GB with $15, 4000 GB with $35 and 8000 GB with $75.

Here are two points you have to notice. The first one is that this company does not make any commitment for refund, therefore there might be some risks of purchasing. The second one is that although LeaseWeb promises there is no setup fee, the voice on Google from their customers indicates they lie to all.

For the sake of convenience, we just choose the first three VPS hosting plans of this company to display their specific features and prices.

Features S M L
vCPU Core(s) 1 2 4
RAM 1 GB 2 GB 4 GB
Disk Space 40 GB 60 GB 80 GB
Monthly Bandwidth 500 GB 500 GB 500 GB
Price $7/mo $16/mo $31/mo

The table above indicates the packages of LeaseWeb don’t provide much resources. For example, the basic S plan comes with 40 GB disk space while the L plan includes 80 GB disk space. Only 500 GB bandwidth and 1 dedicated IP is offered for each plan.

LeaseWeb does not offer many free website building tools, either. In terms of control panels, this company offer both cPanel and Plesk control panels, which are charged with $15 and $16 respectively. Basic Firewall is offered to protect your website and account from malicious attacks.

LeaseWeb PerformanceLeaseWeb promises to offer 99.999% uptime. Although they actually maintain a good uptime by utilizing two geographically separated routers and cooperating with several great transit providers to extent connectivity and global reach, they are not as great as it promises. Besides, downtimes occur in recent years. According to the statistics we have collected, there are frequent downtimes because of server maintenance, which causes a great loss for online businesses.

LeaseWeb locates their data centers in Singapore, Germany, US and Netherlands to offer better services for their users. As it claims, they have built multiple levels of redundancy for their data centers to make sure the high performance of servers, including multiple active paths and redundant components for power distribution and cooling.

Customer Service

LeaseWeb provides 24×7 technical support via phone call, live chat, and email. Note that phone call is available during the business hours while only those who with billing or sales issues can get help through online chat. If you encounter some technical problems, you can choose to ask for help via phone call or email, or just visit their knowledgebase to fix issues by yourself.

On the basis of the elaboration above, LeaseWeb is not recommended for webmasters who want a rich-featured VPS hosting solution with professional technical support. In this case, we have the following alternatives for you.
