StableHost VPS Hosting Review & Rating

StableHost VPS Hosting Review & Rating

Mar 20, 2015

Starting in 2009, StableHost is quite a young company. After 6-year development in the industry, the company only has 10 employees now. But their products are relatively as complete as other large hosting companies, covering shared hosting, VPS, reseller hosting, domain registration and professional spam filtering.

The company values technical support a lot and holds it as the biggest factor to win competition. Besides, the company puts on all their revenue into business so as to provide hosting service with more features.

This review is about its VPS hosting. First of all, there is a rating table on the overall information about StableHost. Details on price, feature, performance and customer service will be presented later.

There are five plans available, namely VZ 1 GB, VZ 2 GB, VZ 4 GB, VZ 8 GB and VZ 16 GB. And the company rates them at $9.95/mo, $14.95/mo, $29.95/mo, $59.95/mo and $119.95/mo respectively.

In addition, the company supports multiple payment methods such as PayPal and credit card. And StableHost also promises customers 45 days money back. So, you can get your money back if you are dissatisfied with their service.

In this part, we are going to compare StableHost with another VPS hosting provider InMotion Hosting. Because VZ 1 GB from StableHost is quite limited in resources, we turn to next plan VZ 2 GB which has the better configuration of resources and close price with VPS-1000S from InMotion Hosting.

Feature StableHost InMotion
Plan In Comparison VZ 2 GB VPS-1000S
Managed Plans No Yes
Storage 60 GB 60 GB
Bandwidth 2 TB 2 TB
CPU 2 Cores 2 Cores
IP Address Unspecified 2
cPanel $29.95/mo Free
Root Access Yes Yes
Money Back 45 Days 90 Days
Price $14.95/mo $14.99/mo
Conclusion Not Recommended Recommended

First of all, this package from StableHost is an unmanaged plan, which means that you yourself need to know some particular technologies about VPS hosting or you need to pay to hire some professionals. Second, there is no cPanel in your range, so you have to pay $29.95/mo for cPanel and 10 hours of managed support. Third, InMotion Hosting beats StableHost for larger amount of RAM and longer period of time for refund. Thus, StableHost is not competitive at all when it faces some bigger companies.

reliabilityBecause the company is at its initial stage, it doesn’t have their own datacenters. Thus, the company has to rent datacenters from other companies. Now, StableHost uses datacenters in Chicago, Phoenix and Amsterdam so as to cover customers in USA and Europe. Besides, the company uses SuperMicro servers powered by virtualization technology so that your server will run at fast speed.

After all, StableHost is really a small company. With limited employees and technologies, it is really hard to provide fast speed for their users. Indeed, what their customers say has just proved that.

As for reliability, the company guarantees that users’ websites will be up at 99.9% of the time. But still, their real performance is far from satisfaction. Simply in the first two months in 2015, the company had 3 outages and one outage lasted for 963 minutes. And their users also complain that their network is not reliable, which often leads to downtimes.

Customer Service

supportIf you are looking for information like FAQs or guidance, there are knowledgebase and video tutorials available. And also, the company has a community forum for user exchange.

In addition, the company claims that they are 24×7 available. But actually, sales and billing departments are only at work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Besides, you can only contact the technical support team and billing department via email. Phone is only accepted for sales issues. And no live chat is available.

Thus, it can be very time-consuming to get some technical assistance. Besides, if you just want to know some general information like details about the feature, you can only turn to their knowledgebase, forum or make a phone call.

According to customer reviews, their support team is not professional and they ignore the tickets sometimes. In general, users are dissatisfied with their customer service.

StableHost is not competitive with such poor performance and customer services. AS a young and small company, StableHost needs to improve a lot before they can really compete with large providers in the market. All in all, if you are looking for a good VPS provider, we would like to suggest some big VPS hosting companies below.
